Worship Music at CrossPoint PM
Here at CrossPoint PM, the worship music is loud and a little edgy, played with a modern rock style. You'll find electric guitars with lots of distortion, full drum sets, and volume that's higher than you might excpect in a church.
Why? CPPM is designed to be a service geared towards people in their twentys, thirtys and younger, expecially people who didn't grow up going to church. We approach worshipping God without pre-defined notions of what worship should be or sound like "because of tradition."
God doesn't need our praise but he wants our hearts. We believe the role of worship music in modern times is to elicit an emotional experience which helps us focus on God and allows our hearts and minds, which have been numbed by the world, to respond to God's Holy Spirit working in us. Younger generations often find it easier to worship to modern musical styles because that's the music of their generation and they associate with it (and by association the message in it) more than music that's played in the musical styles of their parents or grand-parents.
Another reason we try to do things differently is because some people have had a bad experience with a church or a christian. Let's face it, nobody's perfect and we all make mistakes! By offering a different atmosphere with our music and casual setting, we're saying to those people "it's OK and no matter what's happened in the past, we're here to love you because God loves you."
All this is not to say that the music at CPPM will be totally foreign if you're already familliar with common worship songs! We play many of the same songs as other churches, just in a different style. If you haven't been to church before or not for some time, don't worry - the words to the songs are projected onto a screen at the front of the room and the music is loud enough that nobody will notice if you don't already know the melody. Also, if you prefer modern rock worship and you don't fit into the age groups mentioned above, be assured that all ages are welcome and are pretty fairly represented in attendance at CPPM.
